Making Cascarones is a Mexican tradition that has been passed on in my family for many years. I first made them with my Papo and Nana around their kitchen table every year for Easter. All the cousins would be there and we couldn't wait to smash them on each other's head the next day. Then I would make them with my parents and my sister. We would save our shells for weeks before Easter. Now I make them with my daughters:) My grandparent's would be proud!
Step 1~ Break the eggs gentle at the tip with a knife over a bowl
Step 2~ Empty them and clean them
Step 3~ Dye and Dry them
Step 4~ Fill them with confetti and glue tissue on top
Step Five~ Sneak up on a friend or a family member and break the egg on their head. It's super fun, believe me!
Happy Easter and may you always carry on traditions:)
Im totally doing this next year with my students...:)

So fun! I love your tradition.
ReplyDeleteThis has a religious symbolism behind it. I heard it in an Easter sermon in Laredo Tex. Father said one person would say Jesus Christ is risen from the dead and is no longer in the tomb. The other person would say ,,Si , es verdad Yes it's true!) and hit the person over the head with a cascarone, symbolizing Jesus has risen from the dead and broke forth from the tomb.
